Samantha Baird, a cosmetology major, chose her major because of her love for hairstyling and enjoyed learning haircutting at San Jac’s south campus.
“I chose cosmetology because I’ve always loved doing hair and fun hairstyles on myself. What I enjoy most about it is styling hair for weddings, parties, etc,” says Baird.
Her favorite spot to study was right next to the bookstore. Sam’s favorite class was Intro to Haircutting because she loved her teacher and learning how to cut hair. Time management was a lesson she learned in addition to hair styles.
“Being a full-time student, plus working a part-time job, & studying! I quickly had to learn how to manage my time,” says Baird.
Baird plans on continuing her education and going to school for a business degree so that she can open her own salon one day.
“I stayed motivated by knowing one day I can do this in a salon,” says Baird.
Baird thanks her family for their constant support and that they let her practice cutting their hair on them. One thing she wished she had known as a freshman was to not get so stressed out and learn to relax a little more. As a word of advice for incoming freshmen, she says to not give up because even though it may seem hard it’ll be worth it in the end.
