Kids Meals Inc delivers free healthy lunches to hungry preschool children Monday through Friday because families cannot reach grocery stores.
“We are ending childhood hunger,” says Ali Flanders Dodson, Chief Advancement Officer.
Kids Meals Inc works to stop childhood hunger for preschool aged children across the greater Houston area. They bring meals to homes including houses, mobile home parks, and apartments and
connect families to helpful services to break the cycle of poverty. Many families live in food deserts and do not have cars. Getting to a store can mean long walks and multiple bus rides
with small children. Costs are rising, public benefits do not always fill the gaps, and daily meal delivery takes steady funding, many volunteers, and strong systems.
“Our mission is not just about feeding children, it is about helping every child thrive,” says Dodson.
Families qualify if they have at least one child age 5 or younger, live in Kids’ Meals’ delivery zones, and qualify for the National School Lunch Program. Signing up includes an online form offerend in English, Spanish, and Farsi languages. Once approved, children receive a healthy lunch every weekday and groceries three times a week, delivered to their door.
Kids’ Meals is the only home meal delivery service for preschool-aged children in the United States, removing transportation barriers so little kids get the nutrition they need.
In 2025, Kids’ Meals served over 11,000 preschoolers and delivered more than 3.6 million meals.
One family, the Alvarados, a family of five children struggled to afford food. After joining, they built a lasting bond with their Hope provider and driver. For example, Veronica even played soccer with their son Diego during deliveries. With steady food, the children flourished: the eldest became an electrician, and Carlos earned a full scholarship to Johns Hopkins University.
“The money saved on food helps families pay bills and focus on the future,” the team shared.
Kids’ Meals relies on community care. Almost 200 volunteers help Monday–Saturday by making sandwiches, packing lunches, and preparing groceries. A donation of just $2 makes and
delivers a healthy meal for a child.
“Your hands and your heart can make a real difference,” says Dodson.
Looking ahead, Kids’ Meals plans to deliver over 4.2 million meals in 2026 and enroll more than 14,000 preschoolers, with a long-term goal to serve 26,000 children each weekday by 2031.
“Building genuine trust based relationships rooted in transparency and gratitude is how we keep supporters engaged,” says Dodson.
