In 1992, a nonprofit citizens’ organization at the southern end of the Houston Museum
District, Hermann Park Conservancy, was founded to keep the park alive and continue its growth
through multiple million-dollar projects.
“The Hermann Park Conservancy’s mission is dedicated to the stewardship and
improvement of Hermann Park,” said Chloe Delclos, public relations and marketing manager.
“Through our public-private partnership with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, we
raise millions of dollars each year to maintain and bring wonderful new additions to the Park.”
The Hermann Park Conservancy offers a variety of attractions beyond a simple walk
through the park, including scenic areas and ticketed rides for visitors of all ages. Guest can
enjoy open spaces perfect for walking dogs, as well as playgrounds and interactive learning areas
designs for children.
“Guest have a few ways where they can enjoy Hermann Park Conservancy. Besides the
point of interest like Arid Garden, the Hermann Park Railroad is a family friendly train that takes
a 25-minute journey around Hermann Park. There is also pedal boats and the Lott Family
Carousel,” said Delclos
While the park’s relationship with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department is vital
for ongoing support, the park also depends on strong involvement from the community. The park
offers many volunteering opportunities, general monetary donations, membership deals and
events.
“We have many ways for the community to support such as donations, different membership
programs and ticketed events,” said Delclos. “Volunteering is an essential program since
Hermann Park is 445 acres of gardens, trails and green spaces. This means there is a lot of area to
be covered in preserving the health and beauty of Hermann Park. Our Pitch in at Hermann Park
scheduled event on April 23 is where community members of all ages come together to work
alongside Conservancy staff on simple jobs like planting and litter cleanup.”
All the time and money that in contributed to the park is made for good use. With more
than $122 million raised for improvement projects, Hermann Park Conservancy has
accomplished many projects and continues to lay out plans for new ones.
“Hermann Park Conservancy is always looking to introduce new ideas and revitalize
existing areas,” said Delclos. “However, the overall goal remains the same in supporting natural
wildlife and continue to provide a shared experience from all walks of life. The Japanese Garden
is one such example, as one of the main goals in continuing conservation with this space is to
recognize Houston’s thriving Japanese community.”
For those that aren’t just a regular guest, the Hermann Park Conservancy is also accepting
request for proposals to do business within the park. Including such business ranging from
qualified food to retail vendors. Bringing different types of businesses so guest have a wide
range of options to choose from.
“Request for proposals is a way for vendors and companies to serve guest within the
Hermann Park Conervancy. Providing engagement to thousands of park visitors across high-
traffic locations. Usually offering food, beverage, retail, and guest experience vendors,” said
Delclos.
