San Jacinto College is inviting students, families, and community members to attend its annual
“Flock to the Block” event on April 18. The free, family-friendly event is designed to give guests
the opportunity to explore the college, learn about its programs, and enjoy a mix of activities in a
more relaxed and engaging environment.
Flock to the Block is organized by the Office of Outreach and Recruitment, with Stephanie
Funderburg, Coordinator of Tours and Events, helping lead the planning process and ensure
everything comes together.
“Flock to the Block is a free, family-friendly event where guests can learn more about San
Jacinto College,” Funderburg said. “During the event we will have carnival games, bounce
houses, and representatives from college departments and community vendors.”
The event is meant to do more than just provide information. It is designed to create a space
where future students and families can feel comfortable asking questions, exploring campus, and
learning about what college has to offer.
“Connecting with future Ravens and the communities we serve is always a goal for the outreach
team,” Funderburg said. “Flock to the Block was our way of creating a fun and engaging
experience for guests to learn more about the college.”
The event is open to everyone, including prospective students, current students, and local
families who are interested in learning more about higher education opportunities.
“This event is truly open to everyone and is a great event for families,” Funderburg said.
“Students and the community can learn about the college’s programs and resources while also
hearing from community vendors.”
One of the main draws of Flock to the Block is the variety of activities available throughout the
day. Attendees can expect carnival games, mini golf, spin art, and live entertainment, creating an
environment that feels more like a community festival than a typical campus event.
“We’re back for our third year and bringing back the favorite activities,” Funderburg said.
“Guests can expect carnival games, spin art, mini golf, and bounce houses, along with a DJ and
dance performances.”
In addition to the entertainment, the event also focuses on providing helpful resources for
students. Representatives from different college departments will be available to answer
questions, and students will have the chance to learn more about programs, services, and
opportunities offered at San Jacinto College.
A key part of the event is financial aid support, which can often be confusing for students and
families. Flock to the Block aims to make that process easier by offering direct assistance.
“Future and current Ravens can receive assistance with their FAFSA application,” Funderburg
said. “Representatives from our Financial Aid department will be on site to assist students and
answer questions.”
Although this is the third year of the event, organizers say there are no major changes this year.
However, the event continues to grow as more people attend and become aware of what it offers.
“There’s not any major changes or additions this year,” Funderburg said.
Events like Flock to the Block also play an important role in building a sense of community. By
bringing together students, families, and staff, the event helps create stronger connections
between the college and the people it serves.
“Events like Flock to the Block showcase how much we have to offer our students and the ways
we support our communities,” Funderburg said.
Organizers hope attendees leave the event feeling more informed about their options and more
confident about their future.
“I hope guests leave with a better understanding of the college’s programs and resources and feel
connected to San Jacinto College,” Funderburg said. “I hope they are inspired to pursue their
education.”
For those thinking about attending, Funderburg encourages everyone to come out and experience
the event for themselves.
“We’d love to see you there on April 18th,” she said
