San Jac students can get hands-on help applying for scholarships at a weekly workshop in the Student Success Center. The Scholarship Help Workshop meets on Mondays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the S10 library through April 27.
A scholarship is essentially free money that does not need to be repaid that helps with tuition costs and fees. Scholarships are often awarded based on merit or need. Scholarship applications may require a student to complete personal, educational background information, and job experiences. Scholarship applications may also require an essay, transcript, or letters of recommendations.
The workshop is led by Student Success Center staff and focuses on guiding students through the application process before the April 15 priority deadline. Cindy Crawford, who leads the sessions, said the goal is to make scholarships easier to navigate.
“We want to give students the tools and confidence they need to apply successfully,” says Crawford.
The workshop helps students find scholarships, complete applications and improve essays. Staff also help students avoid common mistakes, such as missing deadlines or submitting incomplete forms.
The San Jacinto College Foundation scholarship portal remains open through July 30, but
applying by the priority deadline can improve chances of receiving funding. Students do not need to register and can attend with or without materials.
