A workshop specializing in helping students navigate the portal, identify opportunities, and write about their applications directed by Christina Crawford at South Campus Library S-10 is open every Monday of the week from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. until Monday, April 27th, 2026. Students are free to visit and get help by asking Christina Crawford or other tutors who are available at the workshop.
“I am hosting as part of the Distinguished Faculty program, as a Scholarship Ambassador raising awareness of opportunities is an important part of our role.” says Christina Crawford,
English Professor and organizer of this workshop.
Helping students find opportunities is the key focus for this workshop. Finding scholarships that you are qualified to enter can be challenging, so having help from reliable sources is a big help!
“It’s around my class schedule and when students are commonly available on campus.” says Crawford.
Opening this workshop where students are mainly available gives them the opportunity to join and ask for help if needed. With its rigid schedule, it also allows students to come in around
their busy class schedules.
“I’ve also worked with a handful of students who have reached out through e-mail.” says Crawford.
Sometimes scheduling or other factors doesn’t allow students to have the time to come to the workshop, but emails are also welcome for students to send! This allows students who cannot
travel to the workshop, have scheduling conflicts, or any other factors that do not let the student come physically to the workshop, to still gain help.
“Lots of our students are unaware of the foundation scholarship opportunities.” says Crawford, “scholarship Ambassadors look for opportunities to engage in student outreach and
get students interested and applying for these scholarships.”
This workshop creates the opportunity for students to be aware of the available scholarships. Many students are often left wondering what scholarships are available and can worry about missing those opportunities. It also handles questions that many students may be worried or concerned about, along with bringing together the students for that outreach. Interested students are given the opportunity to apply for the scholarships that the workshop is promoting.
“It’s pretty open ended. Sometimes it’s just handing out a flyer with a QR code, sometimes helping students navigate the scholarship portal, sometimes helping with applications.” says Crawford, “the workshops are geared to foundation scholarships through San Jac. I have helped 2 students planning to transfer in the fall find similar portals at their transfer institutions.”
Coming to this workshop offers different things for everyone. It is focused on helping students with any questions they ask and can possibly answer; it just depends on what you need.
Some students have already gotten help, and hopefully others can say the same as well.
