Pasadena, Texas – The San Jacinto College Foundation has been awarded a 2025 Workforce Development & Safety Training grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company, the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation insurance. The $75,000 investment will support the College’s ongoing commitment to student success, workforce readiness, and community safety.
Texas Mutual selected San Jacinto College as a grant recipient for its proven impact on strengthening Texas communities through high-quality education, workforce training, and wraparound student support.
“We are honored to partner with Texas Mutual in expanding opportunities that help create a stronger, safer Texas,” said Amanda Fenwick, interim executive director, San Jacinto College Foundation. “This generous award directly supports our mission to remove barriers for students and build a skilled workforce ready to meet the region’s growing industry needs.”
Strengthening Student Success and Workforce Readiness
San Jacinto College provides more than 200 educational and workforce pathways across its five campuses and online. Facilities such as the Maritime Campus, Center for Biotechnology, and the Center for Petrochemical, Energy, & Technology, deliver hands-on, industry-aligned training designed to prepare graduates for high-demand careers in oil and gas, skilled trades, construction management, logistics, biotechnology, and more.
Advisory councils across these programs ensure curriculum remains responsive to employer needs, keeping instruction and equipment aligned with industry standards.
More than 70% of San Jac students are from underserved, low-income, or first-generation backgrounds. To help students enter and complete high-quality workforce programs, the College offers open admissions, low tuition rates, bilingual financial aid workshops, and an array of scholarships and support services.
Scholarship and Emergency Support Fueled by Community Partnership
The Texas Mutual award will bolster the San Jacinto College Foundation’s work to expand scholarships and critical student support resources.
Its most transformative initiative, the Promise @ San Jac Scholarship, provides a debt-free education for every graduating high school senior in the College’s taxing district. Promise is a last-dollar scholarship covering 100% of tuition, books, and supplies for up to three years – removing financial barriers and improving social and economic mobility for students and their families.
Another essential resource is the Ravens Rise Student Emergency Fund, which helps students remain enrolled when facing unexpected financial challenges such as rent, utilities, transportation, or child care. Last year alone, more than $130,000 in emergency funding was awarded to over 400 students.
“Building a strong talent pipeline for Texas requires intentional investment and collaboration,” said Veronica Martinez, Senior Manager of Impact and Community Partnerships at Texas Mutual. “These nonprofits are equipping people with the skills that will create lasting change in our workforce, and we’re proud to help accelerate their impact across the state.”
