Students for Life launches on San Jacinto South Campus

February 20th Meeting

A new student movement is bringing a fresh voice to the South Campus. Alexa Russell, a dedicated student at San Jacinto College, recently launched a chapter of Students for Life and serves as its president. The group aims to educate the campus community about the impact of abortion while providing support to mothers and families in need.

Students for Life focuses on supporting life from conception to natural death.

“We want to educate our campus on the physical and emotional impact of abortion, while also being there for mothers and families…” Russell said. Students for Life plans to do service outreaches like diaper drives and community support to help mothers and families facing unexpected pregnancies.

“I realized our campus didn’t have a group like this,” says Russell. “When I attended a pro-life rally in October, I met someone who wanted to help start a chapter here. That’s when I decided to take the step myself.”

Being pro-life is about valuing both the mother as much as the child.

“Life is a gift from God. Every person deserves the chance to live. Being pro-life means being pro both, not just one or the other,” says Russell.

Russell says that her chapter is devoted to remaining respectful.

“Everyone has a story. We want to listen and talk politely without judging anyone,” says Russell.

Students can attend the first meeting at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, on the South Campus S-7 Longnecker Academic Wing | Room S-7.127, 13735 Beamer Rd. Those who can’t attend can join the club’s GroupMe or follow its Instagram account to stay updated.
