Calling all Ravens: Annual Rave set for Oct. 1
Flashing lights, glow sticks, and techno music may not be found in a traditional educational environment, but the Office of Student Life is implementing a modern way of learning.
The third annual Rave will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 1in the Student Center and aims to help students learn about the departments at San Jacinto College Central Campus.
Student Life Coordinator Amanda Rose, along with Liz Garcia from First Year Experience, has hosted this event since 2012.
“This will be our third year for the Rave, and the concept came from Student Development from Central campus,” Rose said. “We wanted a fun and interactive way to engage the students.”
Furthermore, Garcia said, “We wanted to come up with a fun way to get our information out to the students about what each office does.”
Rose said she and her staff are working hard to ensure a good turnout.
“If you want to be in a high energy, positive and fun environment, you should stop by,” Rose said.
In addition, Garcia said every department will have tables offering an opportunity to earn tickets. The more tickets a student receives, the better chance they have of winning prizes like San Jac hoodies, T-shirts, blankets, and a Fast Pass. Fast Pass is a coupon to go to the front of the line at any participating Central campus department for the entire semester.
“The way students can earn tickets, to get food, drinks, and giveaways, is by participating in each of our tables that has games about each department’s office,” Garcia said. “The stuff that we do, and all of the events we do is with the students in mind.”
