Ravens ramp up volume at Student Rave

Glow necklaces, dancing, and games kicked off San Jacinto College Central Campus’s Fall 2013 student activities lineup with a second Student Rave in the W.M. Newton Student Center Wednesday, Sept. 18.

Student Jessalyn Parsell admitted she did not plan on attending. “I heard the music… and just wanted to see what it was about”, Parsell said.  Within seconds of entering the door, she was smiling and dancing in her glowing accessories.

Student Alexis Vargas was enticed by the music, but also by the free food and drinks. “I like the music… and free Monster, c’mon!” Vargas said while holding his drink in the air.

Student Rave ’13, was the second of its kind to be sponsored by the Student Development Department. Along with music and free refreshments, the event featured booths with games, candy, and flyers with important and educational information about the Department.

Central Campus’ Coordinator of Student Life, Amanda Rose, said the Student Development Department’s main goal is to “create a social, fun atmosphere to let students know about resources that aren’t usually utilized”.

Educational Planning and Counseling, First year Experience, Student Life, and Career and Employment Services, all had booths at the Rave.

Student JoAnna Victoria said efforts put forth by the College, like the Rave, are appreciated.

“I think it’s really cool that the school does this for us to keep us involved”, Victoria said.
