Concert Jazzes Up Central Campus
The SJCC Jazz Ensemble will perform Nov. 13 on in Corbin Music Hall.
Vibrant and soulful sounds will fill Corbin Hall Nov. 13 when the SJCC Jazz Ensemble takes the stage for a concert on the San Jacinto College Central Campus.
Jazz Ensemble Director Graham Tobin said, in addition to exposing the San Jac community to the music of jazz greats like Miles Davis, the concert puts students’ musical skills into practice while showcasing the College’s music program.
According to Tobin, the goal of the program is to show students the different styles of jazz, such as contemporary and classical, and help them understand what it takes to prepare for a concert. Furthermore, he said he hopes the show will spark audience interest in the program and help with recruiting.
“I’m hoping that with this event we will reach out to students in high schools and get their attention to attract them to our music program,” Tobin said. “Even if their major is not music, they can still join the band.”
The Jazz Ensemble Concert takes place at 7 p.m. on Nov. 13 in Corbin Hall of the Monte Blue Music building (C5) on the Central Campus. There is no charge for admission.
