Honor, Integrity Groups Invite Students to Join Mentor-Mentee Partnerships
San Jacinto College South Campus’s Women of Integrity (WOI) and Men of Honor (MOH) are hosting their next joint meeting on March 21, and organizers are encouraging students interested in meeting new people, optimizing their employment search, or finding a relatable mentor attend the session.
WOI and MOH are mentoring programs, found on the College’s three main campuses, that are open to all students wanting to develop themselves further, personally, academically, and professionally. The two groups meet biweekly for food and other activities, but the primary focus of both organizations is their mentee-mentor partnerships.
Shrika Wynn, a member and former WOI president, explained the process of pairing a mentor with a mentee.
“You fill out a brief survey discussing your likes, dislikes, degree plan, etc., and you’re paired with a faculty or staff member that best fits with your end results,” Wynn said.
The partnership offers members a counterpart with similar interests that provides accountability and guidance when needed.
Shrika said she enjoyed an “amazing” relationship with her mentor because of shared goals and values.
“We’ve hit some rocks, naturally, because we are two different people,” she said, “but I don’t think I would have made it this far without my mentor.”
In addition to the mentorship program, the organizations participate in conferences, offer volunteer opportunities, and provide assistance in finding campus employment.
However, Wynn emphasized that both organizations give members much more than simply help in navigating their college careers.
You’re introduced to many things that you may not have been exposed to,” she said. “You meet new people and gain lifelong friendships. So get involved.”
Men of Honor and Women of Integrity will meet from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 21 in Room 101 of the Interactive Learning Center (S1) on the South Campus. Further information is available at http://www.sanjac.edu/campus-life/students/men-honor.
