The office of Student Engagement and Activities invites all students interested in becoming effective leaders to Leadership 101 on March 27.

San Jacinto College Central Campus will host a workshop titled Leadership 101 on March 27 for all students interested in cultivating effective leadership skills.

The workshop, organized by the offices of Student Engagement and Activities (SEA) on the three main campuses, features hands-on activities that pinpoint participants’ strongest leadership attributes while recognizing deficient areas that need further attention.

Central Campus SEA Specialist Samantha De La Rosa said although Leadership 101 is a singular event, the workshop experience continues through a follow-up process based on a self-evaluation questionnaire filled out by participants at the end of the session.

“It is designed to be a conversation with the students that allows them to identify qualities within themselves for growth,” De La Rosa said. “They are able to retake the assessment a few months after, to re-assess their progress.”

Meanwhile, fellow SEA Specialist Amanda Garza said the leadership qualities fostered during the session are helpful in an educational setting but are readily applicable to students’ professional endeavors.

“By attending the Leadership 101 workshop,” Garza said, “they will have more knowledge and attentiveness to how they communicate, as well as interpret what happens not only in their classes but in their jobs.”

The Leadership 101 workshop takes place at 1 p.m. on March 27 in Room 202 of the Student Center (C14) on the Central Campus.
