The San Jacinto College North Campus music department is hosting a Fine Arts Fridays concert today featuring Brant Croucher & Friends, a musical group whose repertoire crosses between country music and soft rock.

The Fine Arts Fridays event series presents three concerts each semester showcasing diverse musicians performing a wide variety of styles and genres.

Edgar Moore, a music professor on the North Campus, said the purpose of this event is to open the audience to a larger scale of entertainment and “expand their artistic vision on what’s available to them in music, art, and culture.”

The performance is open to the public, but Moore noted approximately 70 to 100 elementary and middle school students attend the Fine Arts Fridays events since the concerts are organized in coordination with the Galena Park Independent School District.

Robert Siebert, the coordinator for advanced academics at Galena Park ISD, is the district’s representative working with Moore to organize the scheduling and transportation of the students. Siebert said the schools’ participation is part of a larger effort toward academic success.

“All of these students are part of a national program called Duke TIP where they get to take the ACT as seventh graders,” he said.

Former Music Professor Carol Morgan started the Fine Arts Fridays series about eight years ago, and according to Moore, there are no plans make any changes to the event.

Moore said, “I hope it will continue as it is each year.”

The Fine Arts Friday Concert takes place at noon today, Feb.23 in the Grant Fine Arts Center (N1) on the North Campus.
