The Music department of San Jacinto College Central Campus is presenting a concert Nov. 7 with a lineup featuring the talents of its own music faculty.

Central Campus music professor and flutist Lynne Brandt will perform alongside several of her colleagues including department chair and bass player Eric Late, and fellow professors Jeremy Garcia on guitar, Sarah Spencer on piano, and Michael Mizma on drums. The group will perform “Picnic Suiteby Claude Bolling.

“It was written in 1980 for flute, guitar, and jazz piano trio,” she said. “Each movement of the suite presents a unique dialogue between jazz and classical style.”

Brandt said most of her fellow professors regularly perform outside of the College, a practice she pointed out creates “well-rounded” musicians. “All of our music faculty are also highly esteemed performers who have had countless years of training,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Brandt said she finds it “awe-inspiring” to work with such a talented group of musicians in a work setting that allows her to indulge and share the passion she discovered at a very early age.

“When you love what you do,” she added, “you don’t really need motivation.”

“Picnic Suite” by Claude Bolling featuring The SJCC Music Faculty will begin at 7 p.m. on Nov. 7 in Corbin Hall of the Monte Blue Music Building (C5) on the Central Campus.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly identified Nov. 17 as the concert date.
