Award-winning musician Travelin’ Max will headline the entertainment for South and Central Campuses’ Spring Fling events on April 4 and 5, respectively.

Spring has sprung and this year’s Spring Fling festivals will help San Jacinto College South and Central Campuses welcome the season with an array of activities planned for the April 4 and 5 annual celebrations. North Campus hosted its 2017 festival on March 29.

In addition to providing a fundraising opportunity to campus organizations, Daniel Byars, South Campus Student Engagement and Activities (SEA) coordinator, said the events encourage a cohesive collegiate environment.

“Spring Fling is an opportunity for our clubs and academic departments to interact with the campus community, thus strengthening the community spirit of our College,” he said.

The event is organized by the SEA offices on the North, South, and Central Campuses. Planning starts the summer before each school year, and student organizations from each campus are invited to participate.

Jill Johnson, South Campus SEA specialist, said the three campuses began using the unified Spring Fling event title a few years ago when San Jac transitioned to the “One College” operation structure. The long-standing tradition was previously known as Coyote Day on the South Campus, Gator Day on the North Campus, and Raven Day on the Central Campus.

Last year’s Spring Fling on the South Campus included a pitching booth, archery, and a rock wall. This year, attendees can expect to see plenty of artists, performers, and as Byars hinted, a “unique twist on an obstacle course.” In addition, award-winning musician Travelin’ Max will headline the entertainment on both campuses.

Johnson encourages students to attend Spring Fling noting admittance is free, but some activities may charge a ticket.

“It’s a time for students to come together, celebrate the spring semester … and just enjoy the festivities we will have,” Johnson said. Meanwhile, she promised, “It’ll be a blast!”

Spring Fling will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 4 in the courtyard outside the Student Center (S11) on the South Campus, and between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on April 5 in the courtyard outside the Student Center (C14) on the Central Campus.
