San Jacinto College Sports Day organizers hope to reach new heights of fun, excitement, and attendance at this year’s intercollegiate athletic event.

South Campus Rec Sports Director, Trenton Denton, said Sports Day is an event that brings together teams from all three San Jac campuses and other area colleges for a “day of tournament play” in sports like flag football, soccer, and volleyball.

Central Campus Rec Sports Director Butch Sutton said although the event is meant to be a “fun day,” participation is limited to program students exhibiting proper conduct during play.

“This event is invitation only,” he said. “Only students participating in our Rec Sports program, and demonstrate good sportsmanship, are given invitations to participate in Sports Day.”

Sutton noted new activities were added to the 2016 lineup including bubble soccer and adaptive basketball. Furthermore, he estimates a couple of hundred students will attend to both watch and participate.

“We usually have 10 to 12 colleges which equates to about 250+ students here at Central (Campus),” he said.

San Jac has hosted Sports Day for over 20 years, according to Sutton, and the event is now a highly-anticipated part of the Rec Sports calendar.

“We like to represent our campus to others,” he said. “We enjoy hosting the event and seeing the fellowship among our students.”
