San Jacinto College Central Campus Rec Sports is participating in the Insane Inflatable 5k on March 26 and invites all students to join in. The 3.1-mile course features a race to the finish line through multiple inflatable obstacles; all designed to be fun yet challenging.

Central campus department Chair of physical education, Sandi Morgan, said she is excited the Rec program is expanding to include an activity like this.

“It just sounded like so much fun and safer than those mud runs and other similar events,” Morgan said.

According to Staff Assistant Mary Shelley, Rec Sports is taking part in the race to attract students not interested in traditional sports, but still appeal to the usual sporty types.

“We are trying to do more outdoor adventures like hiking, fishing, canoeing to target that spectrum of students,” Shelley said. “Maybe they are adventurous or just want to do running events like this.”

The Central Campus Rec Sports team will attend the 9:30 a.m. wave on March 26. Furthermore, Shelley said she encourages interested students to follow San Jac Rec Sports on social media, or check their website for more information.

The program has a variety of events planned this semester. Earlier this month, students were spotted playing soccer inside oversized inflatable balls on the Central campus. Shelley commented, “This is just another dimension Rec Sports falls under.”

The Insane Inflatable 5k will take place on March 26 and 27 at the Pasadena Convention Center. More information is available at www.sjcd.edu/rec-sports and www.insaneinflatable5k.com/houston-tx.com.
