Solo Recital Features Clarinet and Sax

San Jacinto College Central Campus’s music department will feature its clarinet and saxophone players in a solo recital accompanied by piano professor Dr. Sarah Spencer. The Woodwind Studio Recital is open to the public and will showcase performances by student soloists.

Central campus music professor Jeffrey Adams organized the recital with the help of Geneva Fort, the administrative assistant for the music department.

Adams said in addition to presenting the community with “a very nice recital,” there is another reason for putting on this performance.

“The primary intention for this event is to encourage the woodwind students from my studio,” he said, “to plan and prepare for an event that will feature their talents and efforts individually.”

Furthermore, Adams said he hopes the musicians will grow from this experience.

“Students should feel the sense of accomplishment from their strong efforts of preparation for this event,” he said.

Meanwhile, participant Hakeem De Hoyos prepares for a saxophone solo, and although not his first solo, this is his first studio recital. Regardless, he said he has “high expectations for everyone” for what will be an enjoyable performance.

“I know they are all talented musicians in their own ways,” he said. “We had a small practice recital last week to show everyone’s progress, and there is a lot of good stuff already happening with everyone. It will be an entertaining show.”

The Woodwind Studio Recital will take place March 31 at 7 p.m. in Corbin Hall of the Monte Blue Music Building (C5) on the Central campus. There is no charge for admission.
