Ravens basketball players arrive at Central campus to kick off their upcoming season.
Food, music, and Halloween fun were available for everyone attending the SJC Rally Oct. 29 at San Jacinto College Central Campus.
The district-wide rally kicked off the College’s basketball season, while also celebrating the success of Ravens volleyball. Players from both teams were introduced while students and faculty looked on.
Indoors, clubs and organizations filled the Student Center with booths offering different activities and information.
The Office of Student Life sponsored the event, with the help of the Student Government Association (SGA) who organized the rally’s costume contest.
According to Petra Hernandez, the President of SGA, the grand prize for best costume was a one hundred dollar Visa gift card.
“What we look for is originality and the creativeness of the design,” Hernandez said.
Meanwhile, the Radiology X-Ray Freshman Group won the contest for best booth adding one hundred dollars to their organization’s budget, Hernandez added.
She also said they put a lot of effort into training the judges, but also, preparing the flyers, decorations, and prizes.
“It took a lot of teamwork to make the event successful,” Hernandez said.
Scott Gernander, head coach of the Ravens basketball team, said the rally is a great chance for students to get to know the groups and organizations on campus while getting acquainted with the basketball and volleyball teams.
“The SJC Rally lets me know that it is time for basketball season to start, and it gets me excited,” Gernander said.
